Dear Parishioners,

The Lord continues to reveal his love for us in so many ways. How blessed we are to be witnesses of the Lord’s love for us and his Church. We gather each Sunday to proclaim God’s infinite love for us, most especially as we enter the mysteries of our salvation. The celebration of the Eucharist strengthens us to continue the mission of spreading God’s love to all the ends of the earth. In today’s gospel, Jesus returns to his native place to teach and to preach the good news, but he is not welcomed because of their lack of faith. As witnesses and disciples of the Lord, we must not lose faith. With the Lord at our side, we have nothing to fear or worry about. During these summer months, let us continue to practice our faith by going to Mass each Sunday. Let us continue to devote ourselves to prayer, always allowing Christ to be the center of our lives.

Parish Pilgrimage to Marian Shrine

Our parish rosary society will be sponsoring a pilgrimage to Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine in Doylestown, PA next Saturday, July 13. The bus will leave from Our Lady of Victory Church at 7:00AM sharp. For tickets, please see one of the rosarians or call the parish office.

Annual Catholic Appeal

I thank all of you for your generous contribution to this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal. As you know, this appeal supports the works of the Diocese of Brooklyn such as Catholic Charities, Migration Services, Vocations, the aid of our Senior Priests and much more. Each parish is assigned a goal to raise within the year. Our goal here at St. Martin de Porres is $63,586. The key to a successful campaign is full participation. If you have not made a pledge to this year’s appeal, I ask that you consider making one. I thank all of you for the gift of your time, talent and treasure.

Allow me to end with this prayer for the summer season that I came across a few days ago:

Loving God, Creator of all times and places, we thank you for the gift of summertime, the days of light, warmth and leisure. Thank you for the beauty that surrounds us everywhere we look: the multi-colored flowers, the deep blue of the sky, the tranquil surface of lakes, the laughter of children at play, people strolling in parks, families gathered around picnic tables and the more time to spend with family and friends. As we open our eyes and ears to the landscape of nature and people, open our hearts to receive all as gift. Give us that insight to see you as the Divine Artist. Help us to realize and appreciate that you are laboring to keep all in existence. Warm our souls with the awareness of your presence. Let all the gifts we enjoy this summer deepen our awareness of your love so that we may share this with others and enjoy a summertime of re-creation. AMEN.

Wishing you a peaceful and joyful week,

Father Alonzo Q. Cox
