Dear Parishioners,

Today is the last day of the month of June. Summer seems to have begun in full force, especially with these warm temperatures. As we enter the month of July, it is my hope that each of you will be able to enjoy the rest and relaxation of these summer months. As I mentioned last week, both Father Joel and Msgr. Tony will be celebrating Mass at the parish, giving both Father Franklin and I an opportunity for vacation. Our scripture readings for Mass speak to us of the gift of healing. Just as Jesus healed the daughter of Jairus and the woman afflicted with hemorrhages, the Lord continues to heal us of our infirmities. We know that with the Lord at our side, we can get through the toughest of battles, whether they be physical or spiritual. The Lord strengthens us and heals us so that we may continue the journey of following him closer to the kingdom of heaven.

Sunday Dinner Fundraiser

Thank you to all who participated in last week’s Sunday dinner fundraiser. Much planning went into making the event so successful. The parish raised over $3,000 in dinners sold! Thank you for your dedication and support of this fundraiser.

Parish Pilgrimage to Marian Shrine

Our parish rosary society will be sponsoring a pilgrimage to Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine in Doylestown, PA on Saturday, July 13. The bus will leave from Our Lady of Victory Church at 7:00AM sharp. For tickets, please see one of the rosarians or call the parish office.

Annual Catholic Appeal

I thank all of you for your generous contribution to this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal. As you know, this appeal supports the works of the Diocese of Brooklyn such as Catholic Charities, Migration Services, Vocations, the aid of our Senior Priests and much more. Each parish is assigned a goal to raise within the year. Our goal here at St. Martin de Porres is $63,586. The key to a successful campaign is full participation. If you have not made a pledge to this year’s appeal, I ask that you consider making one. I thank all of you for the gift of your time, talent and treasure.

Independence Day Holiday

This Thursday, July 4th is Independence Day. It is a national holiday. The parish office will be closed both Thursday July 4 and Friday July 5. There will be a regular Mass schedule for both days. Happy 4th of July!

First Friday Devotions

This Friday, July 5 is the first Friday of the month. First Friday devotions will take place at Our Lady of Victory Church following the 8:00AM Mass with Eucharistic adoration, the recitation of the rosary and Benediction. We will also have a first Friday Mass at St. Peter Claver at 12:00Noon.

Wishing you a peaceful and joyful week,

Father Alonzo Q. Cox
