Dear Parishioners,

Each of our readings for Mass today speak to us about the Kingdom of God. We hear in our gospel passage of the growth of the Kingdom of God. It is the familiar parable of the mustard seed. It is the smallest of seeds but can grow into the largest of trees. We as a faith community here at St. Martin de Porres must continue to build up the Kingdom of God here in Bedford Stuyvesant. We are called to bring the light and love of Jesus to all those we encounter. Our parish community must be a place of encounter. We encounter the Lord Jesus whenever we walk through the doors of our churches. We encounter the Lord in both word and sacrament. St. Paul tells us so beautifully in today’s second reading, “we walk by faith, not by sight”. It is our faith that allows us to proclaim Christ crucified, raised from the dead and coming again in glory. May we continue to build up the Kingdom of God here and now, so that we may enjoy the eternal Kingdom that awaits us in heaven.

Today is Father’s Day. I take this opportunity to wish all Fathers a very happy and blessed Father’s Day. There will be a special blessing imparted to all Fathers at each of the Masses this weekend.
