Dear Parishioners,

This past weekend we had the tremendous joy of celebrating the ordination of our former seminarian now Father Tobechukwu Offiah. So many parishioners attended Tobe’s ordination which was held at the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph. So many of Tobe’s friends and family joined him for this amazing moment as he was raised to the priesthood. Next Sunday, June 16, Father Tobe will celebrate the 10:15AM Mass at Our Lady of Victory Church. Following the Mass, Father Tobe will impart individual first priestly blessings. I have been approached by many parishioners that they would like to attend this Mass and receive his blessing. With this in mind, we will not have the 11:30AM Mass at St. Peter Claver Church next Sunday. There will be the usual 5:00PM Vigil Mass on Saturday night at St. Peter Claver. On Sunday we will have the 7:30AM Mass at Our Lady of Victory and 9:00AM Mass at Holy Rosary.

Father’s Day
Next Sunday is Father’s Day. We will impart a blessing for all fathers present at the Masses. Father’s Day remembrance envelopes are located at the doors of each of the three churches. You may place the names of your father on the envelope along with the offering. The names of all fathers will be place on the altars of each of the three churches throughout the month of June.

Annual Catholic Appeal
I thank all of you for your generous contribution to this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal. As you know, this appeal supports the works of the Diocese of Brooklyn such as Catholic Charities, Migration Services, Vocations, the aid of our Senior Priests and much more. Each parish is assigned a goal to raise within the year. Our goal here at St. Martin de Porres is $63,586. The key to a successful campaign is full participation. If you have not made a pledge to this year’s appeal, I ask that you consider making one. I thank all of you for the gift of your time, talent and treasure.

EBC Introductory Meeting
We will hold an introductory meeting for East Brooklyn Congregations on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 10 AM in Our Lady of Victory McGuinness Hall. This meeting will be a listening session to gage the interests of the parish. It will be one hour long and will include, but will not be limited to, housing issues in our community.

Online Bible Study
Online Bible study will resume on Sunday, June 23 beginning at 5:00PM. The Topic will be “The Kingdom.” We will use Fr Frank Matera’s “The Kingdom of God”. The essential Message of Jesus, in the Little Rock Scripture Study program. Msgr. Matera is both a nationally known Scripture Scholar and a Pastor. He has tremendous learning and can communicate it to non-scholars. He asks and will help us answer basic questions. I urge you to take time this summer to join us.

Wishing you a joyful and peaceful week,
Father Alonzo Q. Cox
