Dear Parishioners,

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, known as Corpus Christi. As Catholics, we believe that Christ is present, body, blood, soul and divinity in the Most Blessed Sacrament. The Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith. It is in that reality, that we celebrate this feast. In our gospel today at Mass, we hear Jesus utter those words proclaimed on Holy Thursday, “this is my body, this is my blood”. Jesus gives of himself for our nourishment. Each time we approach the table of the Lord we are fed with him, who is the Bread of Life and the cup of eternal salvation. On this feast of Corpus Christi, we pray for an increase of devotion to our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament. I invite you to spend more time with Jesus present in the tabernacles of our three churches. In this year of Eucharistic revival, we are invited to participate in devotions such as Holy Hour and Adoration. Let us pray that Jesus will continue to pour out his grace upon us his children, as we gaze upon him in the Eucharist.

Father Tobechukwu  Offiah

As I write this letter, we are joyfully preparing for the priestly ordination of our former pastoral year seminarian, Tobe. We have been praying for this day and we ask the Lord to continue to bless Tobe and his three classmates as they are ordained to the priesthood. Father Tobe will celebrate his First Mass as a priest at his home parish, St. Clement Pope in Jamaica Queens this weekend. On Father’s Day, June 16, Father Tobe will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at Our Lady of Victory at the 10:15AM Mass. All are invited to celebrate the gift of priesthood with Father Tobe. Following the Mass, Father Tobe will bestow individual first priestly blessings upon all the faithful.

Father’s Day Remembrance

As we enter the month of June, we remember in a special way all fathers both living and deceased. Father’s Day remembrance envelopes are located at the doors of each of the three churches. You may place the names of your father on the envelope along with the offering. The names of all fathers will be place on the altars of each of the three churches throughout the month of June.

First Friday Devotions and Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

This Friday, June 7th is the first Friday of the month. It is also the solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. First Friday devotions will take place at Our Lady of Victory Church following the 8:00AM Mass with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, the recitation of the rosary and Benediction. There will also be a 12:00Noon first Friday Mass at St. Peter Claver.

May the heart of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament be praised, adored and loved with grateful affection at every moment in all the tabernacles of the world, even until the end of time, Amen.

Wishing you a blessed and peaceful week,

Father Alonzo Q. Cox
