Dear Parishioners

Today is the 4th Sunday of Easter. It is traditionally known as Good Shepherd Sunday, since our gospel passage comes from the Good Shepherd discourse. Jesus tells us that he is the Good Shepherd who lays his life down for his sheep. Jesus is that shepherd who knows his sheep and the sheep know him. In a very special way today, we pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. We pray for the shepherds of today, who continue to give of themselves for the flock, particularly here in the Diocese of Brooklyn. We pray that God will call and raise more shepherds here in Brooklyn and Queens. We pray for our seminarian, Deacon Tobe, who in just a few short weeks will be ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Brooklyn. May the Lord bless him and his classmates as they are raised to the sacred priesthood, and they become our shepherds here. As we continue our Easter journey, we pray that the Lord will bestow his love and mercy upon us, that we might see his face and bask in his glory and majesty. May Jesus, present in the Most Blessed Sacrament, be praised, adored and loved, at every moment, in all the tabernacles of the world, even until the end of time, Amen.

Annual Catholic Appeal

I thank all of you for your generous contribution to this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal. As you know, this appeal supports the works of the Diocese of Brooklyn such as Catholic Charities, Migration Services, Vocations, the aid of our Senior Priests and much more. Each parish is assigned a goal to raise within the year. Our goal here at St. Martin de Porres is $63,586. The key to a successful campaign is full participation. If every parishioner participates in this year’s appeal, we will most definitely make our goal and maybe go above it. Any monies raised beyond the goal comes directly back to the parish. If you have not made a pledge to this year’s appeal, I ask that you consider making one. I thank all of you for the gift of your time, talent and treasure.

League of the Sacred Heart Tea Party

Our parish League of the Sacred Heart will have their annual fundraiser Tea Party next Sunday, April 28 in St. Peter Claver Msgr. Rodgers Hall beginning at 1:30PM. Tickets are $35 for adults and $15 for children ages 12 and under. All are invited to join us for an afternoon of fellowship and fun.

Mother’s Day Remembrance

As we prepare to enter the month of May, we will remember in a special way at Mass all mothers, both alive and deceased. Mother’s Day remembrance envelopes are located at the doors of each of our three churches. Please fill out the envelope and place the offering inside. You may return the envelope in the collection basket or to the parish office. The names of all mothers will be placed on the altars of each of the three churches throughout the month of May.

Wishing you a blessed and peaceful week,

Father Alonzo Q. Cox
