Dear Parishioners,

Today is the 5th and last Sunday in the season of Lent. Next Sunday we will begin the solemn Triduum of Holy Week with Palm Sunday. I hope that these last weeks of Lent have been moments of prayer and grace, as we enter the most sacred of days. Today’s scripture readings for Mass truly give us a reflection for what we are about to enter. We hear in today’s gospel, “Now is the Son of Man to be glorified”. We see how Jesus is preparing his disciples for what is about to happen. The Lord know that they must be both physically and spiritually prepared to witness Jesus endure the agony of the cross. But we know from the darkness of the cross comes the light of the resurrection. May our hearts be filled with God’s abundant grace as we prepare to celebrate Holy Week.

Palm Sunday

Next Sunday is Palm Sunday. We will have a regular Sunday Mass schedule. For the exception of the 5:00PM Saturday night Vigil Mass, weather permitting, there will be an outdoor procession with palms. Palm branches will be blessed and distributed at all the masses next Sunday.

 Stations of the Cross

As is the custom here at St. Martin de Porres, stations of the cross will be prayed every Friday night during the season of Lent at each of our three churches beginning at 7:00PM. All are welcomed to join us as we walk and pray the stations of the cross.

Lenten Eucharistic Adoration and Vespers

As is the custom here at St. Martin de Porres, we will have Eucharistic Adoration and vespers each Tuesday evening during the season of Lent. It will take place at Our Lady of Victory Church beginning at 7:30PM. All are welcomed to join us as we spend time before the Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament, pray the sorrowful mysteries of the rosary and pray solemn vespers.

Rosary Society Palm Sunday Brunch

Our parish rosary society will continue with their annual Palm Sunday Brunch. It will take place next Sunday, March 24 following the 10:15AM Mass. It will be a pickup and go meal. Each meal is $30 each. Please be sure to stop by McGuinness Hall on Palm Sunday to help support this great parish fundraiser.

Diocese of Brooklyn Eucharistic Revival

The Diocese of Brooklyn Eucharistic Revival that was to take place in October will now take place on Saturday, April 20. It will take place at the Louis Armstrong Tennis Stadium in Flushing. If you purchased a seat on the bus for October, you automatically have a seat on the bus for this event. If you would like to purchase a seat on the bus for April, please call the parish office.

We adore you O Christ and we praise you, for by your Holy Cross, you have redeemed the world,

Father Alonzo Q. Cox
