Dear Parishioners,

Today is the fourth Sunday of Lent. You will notice that the vestments the priest and deacons are wearing today are different in color. They are rose colored. The mixture of the Lenten purple and the Easter white create a rose color. It is a clear sign that we are at the midway point in our Lenten observance. It is my hope that these last four weeks of Lent has been a time of spiritual renewal as we prepare to enter these most sacred of days that is the Lord’s passion, death and resurrection. Today’s gospel is one of my favorite passages. It is the famous John 3:16, “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that all may have eternal life”. What a beautiful image for us to reflect upon today as we prepare to celebrate Holy Week. God loves us so much that he gave the world his Son, to be nailed to the wood of the cross and to be raised from the dead. May these remaining weeks be a time of grace and prayer for all of us.

Stations of the Cross

As is the custom here at St. Martin de Porres, stations of the cross will be prayed every Friday night during the season of Lent at each of our three churches beginning at 7:00PM. All are welcomed to join us as we walk and pray the stations of the cross.

Lenten Eucharistic Adoration and Vespers

As is the custom here at St. Martin de Porres, we will have Eucharistic Adoration and vespers each Tuesday evening during the season of Lent. It will take place at Our Lady of Victory Church beginning at 7:30PM. All are welcomed to join us as we spend time before the Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament, pray the sorrowful mysteries of the rosary and pray solemn vespers.

Seven Last Words

As has been the custom, we will have a special prayer service on Good Friday, March 29 at St. Peter Claver Church beginning at 10:00AM commemorating the seven last words of Jesus before he died. Parishioners are invited to give a brief 5-to-7-minute reflection on one of the seven last words. If you are interested in giving a reflection, please see Estella McDuffey at St. Peter Claver or call the parish office.

Rosary Society Palm Sunday Brunch

Our parish rosary society will continue with their annual Palm Sunday Brunch. It will take place on Sunday, March 24 following the 10:15AM Mass. It will be a pickup and go meal. Each meal is $30 each. Please be sure to stop by McGuinness Hall on Palm Sunday to help support this great parish fundraiser.

Parish Women’s Day Celebration

Our annual parish Women’s Day celebration will take place next Sunday, March 17 at St. Peter Claver Church following the 11:30AM Mass. Raffle tickets are still available for purchase. Please see one of the committee members after Mass or call the parish office.

We adore you O Christ and we praise you, for by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world,

Father Alonzo Q. Cox
