What a beautiful celebration we had last week! I take this opportunity to thank all of you for making our parish feast day Mass and reception so beautiful. Each year I continue to be in awe of the amazing and wonderful things happening here at. St. Martin de Porres. We were blessed to have Deacon Tobe with us along with seminarians from the Diocese of Brooklyn. In just about 6 months, Deacon Tobe will become Father Tobe. As I mentioned in my remarks after Mass last Sunday, Deacon Tobe will be an amazing priest! Let us pray for him and his classmates as they continue their journey to the altar of God. As we prepare to enter a new liturgical year cycle, our scripture readings focus on the Kingdom of God. Our Lord reminds us that we know neither the day nor the hour of when he will come again, but we must be prepared. St. Paul reminds us that we journey with the Lord to heaven. We are people of hope! Let us pray that the Lord will strengthen our hope, as we follow him closer to the kingdom that awaits us.
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, it has been the custom to distribute Thanksgiving baskets to families who might be in need this year. If you need a Thanksgiving food basket or know of a family that may need one, please call the parish office to have the names placed on the list. Basket distribution will take place the week before Thanksgiving.
All Souls Day Remembrance
During the month of November, we will remember in a special way all those who have died. All Souls envelopes are located at each of the three churches. Names of the deceased will be placed on the altars of each of the churches throughout the month.
Parish Thanksgiving Luncheon
St. Peter Claver Church invites all parishioners to join for a parish Thanksgiving lunch next Sunday, November 19 in Msgr. Rodgers Hall at St. Peter Claver immediately following the 11:30AM Mass. All are invited for a time of fellowship and food.
A 50/50 envelope has been included in your monthly tithe’s envelope packet. Extra envelopes are located at the doors of the churches. Contribution is $20 and the proceeds will be used for the ongoing renovation and rebuilding of parish facilities. The winner takes home half of the amount collected for the given month. Simply drop your entry in the collection basket or bring it to the parish office. The winner will be announced.
Wishing you a joyful and peaceful week,
Father Alonzo Q. Cox
