Dear Parishioners,

This weekend is Labor Day weekend! This weekend has become known as the un-official end of summer. I sincerely hope that each of you had a great summer, filled with rest, rejuvenation and relaxation. For me, these last few weeks in addition to the rest, rejuvenation and relaxation, it has been an opportunity for me to grow closer to the Lord Jesus. How blessed we are to be in a relationship with the Lord, who calls us to discipleship. Our Lord challenges us in today’s gospel that if we truly want to be his faithful followers, we must deny ourselves, pick up our cross and follow him. Each of us have crosses that we bear, but with the Lord at our side, we know that we can carry them with strength and fidelity. As St. Paul tells us in today’s second reading from his letter to the Romans, we must be transformed by the renewal of our minds. As we begin a new pastoral year together, we pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to be at work within our lives, showing us the bright light of the God’s merciful love for us, his children.

Labor Day Holiday

This Monday, September 4 is Labor Day. It is a federal holiday. The parish office will be closed. One Mass will be celebrated at 8:00AM at Our Lady of Victory Church. There will not be a 12:00Noon Mass at St. Peter Claver Church. Please have a happy and safe Labor Day!

Back to School Blessing

Next week after all the Masses we will bless the students, teachers and faculty members who will be going back to school for another academic year. Allow me to share this prayer with you: Dear Lord, as our students begin a new school year, I pray that you will keep them in your care. Send your Spirit to open their minds to all that is true and beautiful and good. Help them to see the gifts and talents you have given them and to use them well. Help them to grow in knowledge and wisdom. Help them to be kind to others and lead others to be kind to them. Give their teachers patience and understanding and help them teach what is just and true. Send your angels to guide and guard our children and to keep them from all harm. Open their young hearts to your presence and enfold them in your peace and protection. Hold them in the palm of your hand and bring them home safely at day’s end. Amen.
