Dear Parishioners,,
We are quickly approaching these last few weeks of summer. I don’t know about you, but these weeks just seem to fly right by. We have already approached the middle of August. Soon our students will be making their way back to school, which I’m sure brings excitement and joy to the parents of our students. How appropriate it is then that we hear in today’s gospel Jesus speaking to us from the water. Today’s gospel depicts Jesus walking on the water and his disciples seeing him. Our Lord says to them, “take courage, it is I, do not be afraid”. The Lord encourages us to be courageous in our faith, to be able to proclaim the truths of our faith, not worrying about what others will say or do. We must be courageous in bringing the light of Christ to all our brothers and sisters. Jesus encourages us to never take our eyes off him, so that we may not sink into the waters of despair, hopelessness or doubt. May these last few weeks of summer be encounters with the Lord Jesus, as he takes us by the hand to follow him.
Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
This Tuesday, August 15 is the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is a holy day of obligation. Masses will be celebrated at each of our three churches: 9:00AM at Holy Rosary Church, 12:00Noon at St. Peter Claver Church and 7:30PM at Our Lady of Victory Church. Please note that there will not be an 8:00AM Mass at Our Lady of Victory on August 15.
Almighty ever-living God, who assumed the Immaculate Virgin Mary,
the Mother of your Son, body and soul into heavenly glory,
grant we pray, that, always attentive to the things that are above,
we may merit to be sharers of her glory.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
School of Faith Formation Registration
New registration and re-registration for our parish school of faith formation has begun. Children who need receiving the Sacraments of Initiation must register their children for faith formation classes. Registration fee is $55 per child. You may register online via our parish website or pick up a registration form at the parish office.
Curry Q Fundraiser
Our parish will be conducting a Curry Q fundraiser on Saturday, September 16 at Our Lady of Victory McGuinness Hall from 2:00PM to 6:00PM. You are invited to partake of some delicious curry flavored dishes. Tickets are $25 each. You may purchase a ticket after Mass or at the parish office.
Back to School Kick-Off
As is the custom here at St. Martin de Porres, we will be accepting donations of school supplies to help the students of our parish. There will be bins located at the doors of each of the three churches that you may place the supplies in, or you may bring them to the parish office during the week.
