Dear Parishioners

Today is the Solemnity of Pentecost. We gather on this Pentecost Sunday to celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit. Today officially concludes the Easter season. It is my hope that all of us was able to develop a deeper relationship with the Risen Lord, as we encounter him in both word and sacrament. Today, the Lord gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit, in which we are empowered to “go out” and proclaim the Good News by the example of our lives. We hear in today’s gospel of Jesus bestowing his peace upon the disciples who were gathered. The Lord breathes on them and at that moment invokes the Holy Spirit upon them. Today’s solemnity is also traditionally known as the birthday of the Church. It is on Pentecost that the Lord sends his apostles out to spread the faith, by the power and working of the Holy Spirit. We pray that this Pentecost will be a day filled with the love of the Spirit, allowing us to share the fruits of that same Spirit with all our brothers and sisters.

Plant and Cake Sale

Our annual parish plant and cake sale will take place this weekend, May 27th/28th. You are all invited to purchase a beautiful plant or a delicious piece of cake. Proceeds will help support the social outreach of our parish community.

Father’s Day Remembrance

During the month of June, we will remember in a special way all Father’s both living and deceased. Father’s Day remembrance envelopes are located at the doors of each of the three churches. You are invited to place the names of the fathers you wish to have remembered along with the offering in the envelopes. These names will be placed on the altars of each of the three churches during the month of June.

First Friday Devotions

This Friday, June 2 is the first Friday of the month. Frist Friday devotions will take place following the 8:00AM Mass at Our Lady of Victory with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, the recitation of the rosary and Benediction. There will also be a first Friday Noon Mass at St. Peter Claver Church.

Memorial Day Holiday

This Monday, May 29 is Memorial Day. It is a national holiday. The parish office will be closed. Only one Mass will be celebrated at 8:00AM at Our Lady of Victory Church. There will not be a 12:00 Noon Mass at St. Peter Claver Church. Have a Happy Memorial Day!

Come Holy Spirit fill the hearts of your faithful, enkindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created, and you shall renew the face of the earth.

Wishing you a blessed and peaceful week in the Lord Jesus,

Father Alonzo Q. Cox
