From the Pastor’s Desk.
Dear Parishioners,
I take this opportunity to thank all of you who came out to our parish Superbowl party. We owe a deep debt of gratitude to the Holy Name Society and the Knights of St. Peter Claver for sponsoring last week’s party. Even if the team you were rooting for did not win the big game last week, it was evident that everyone had a great time! I also would like to thank the technology teachers at the Waldorf school for assisting in getting the big screen and sound set up for last week’s game. It was a great evening of fellowship!
This week we begin the season of Lent with Ash Wednesday. On this 7th Sunday of Ordinary Time, the Lord is challenging us to a greater sense of love. Jesus reminds us that we love not only our neighbor but also our enemies. As a human being, how can we love someone who clearly wants to be my enemy? How can I turn my cheek when someone slaps me? Jesus wants us to imitate him in all we say and do. The challenge of being a follower of Christ is allowing him to use us, in our humanity, to shine his light of love and mercy to our brothers and sisters. As we prepare to enter the season of Lent, let us pray that our hearts will be filled with God’s love and mercy.
