From the Pastor’s Desk

Dear Parishioners,

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King. It is also the last Sunday of the liturgical year. Next week we will begin the season of Advent, as we prepare for the birth of the Savior, Christ the Lord. Christ the King has always been one of my favorite feast days. It focuses on the reality of Christ as King of the Universe. Our gospel passage today depicts the crucifixion of our Lord on Calvary. The rulers mocked him and jeered saying, “if you are the King of the Jews save yourself”. One of the convicted criminals who was crucified with Jesus says to the Lord, “Jesus remember me when you come into your kingdom”. Those are our words to the Lord today on this beautiful feast, Jesus remember me when you come into your kingdom. Jesus is truly the King of heaven and earth. As he was nailed to the wood of the cross and placed with a crown of thorns on his head, we see Christ crowned as savior and redeemer. We pray that the Lord will continue to rule with his mighty arm until he comes again in glory and majesty. Long live Christ the King!

Thanksgiving Holiday

This Thursday, November 24 is Thanksgiving Day. Mass will be celebrated at 8:00AM at Our Lady of Victory Main Church. All are invited to bring a dish that they will be serving on their Thanksgiving table to be blessed at Mass. The parish office will be closed both Thursday and Friday. On behalf of the entire parish staff, I wish all of you a happy and blessed Thanksgiving holiday.

Lector Workbooks

As we begin a new liturgical year in a few weeks, the cycle of scripture readings proclaimed at Mass changes. All lectors from each of our three churches are asked to pick up their new lector workbooks this week. They will be in the sacristy of the three churches. You are asked to sign for your new workbook.

Parish Thanksgiving Luncheon

Today is our parish Thanksgiving luncheon. Parishioners from each of our churches are invited to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with food and fellowship at St. Peter Claver’s Msgr. Rodgers Hall immediately following the 11:30AM Mass. I thank the Godoy family and the many volunteers from St. Peter Claver Church for making this luncheon a reality this year.

Tuesday Evening Advent Vespers

We will continue with the custom of Eucharistic adoration and vespers on the Tuesdays of Advent. Our first Tuesday evening vespers will take place on November 29th at Our Lady of Victory Church beginning at 7:30PM. All are welcomed to join us for prayer each Tuesday night during the season of Advent.

Wishing all of you a blessed and joyful week.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Father Alonzo Q. Cox
