From the Pastor’s Desk
Dear Parishioners,
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, the Body and Blood of Christ. As Catholics, we know that the Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith. We believe and proclaim that Jesus is present body, blood, soul and divinity in the Most Blessed Sacrament. It is in the Eucharist that we encounter the real presence of Jesus Christ. It is customary for churches to have outdoor processions with the Blessed Sacrament on this solemnity. The purpose of these processions is to bring the person of Christ into the world. The solemnity of Corpus Christi reminds us of the importance of the Blessed Sacrament and how we must revere the Lord. When we receive Holy Communion, we should always do so reverently and with the utmost respect. When passing the tabernacle, we should aways show respect for the Lord who is present there. The Eucharist is at the center of our lives of faith. We are encouraged to spend time before the Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament, allowing him to speak to us heart to heart. May the Lord continue to bless us in his love and mercy as we celebrate this beautiful solemnity of Corpus Christi.
Congratulations Graduates
As we approach graduation season, I want to take this opportunity to congratulate all our graduates here at St. Martin de Porres Parish. If you are graduating this year, please send us your name, school, and level of school that you are graduating from. We will print this information in the bulletin.
Father’s Day
Today is Father’s Day. On behalf of the entire parish community, I wish all of the Fathers of our parish a happy and blessed Father’s Day. Throughout the month of June, we will remember all Father’s living and deceased. There are Father’s Day envelopes at each of our three churches. You may place the envelope in the offertory at Mass or bring it to the parish office. The names will be placed on the altar throughout the month of June.
Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
This Friday, June 24, the Church celebrates the solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. In addition to the 8:00AM Mass at Our Lady of Victory, there will be a special 12:00Noon Mass celebrated at St. Peter Claver Church. We are blessed to have the League of the Sacred Heart at St. Peter Claver Church. We thank them for their dedicated work in promoting this beautiful devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Please be sure to join us.
Anniversary of Ordination to Priesthood
Next Sunday I will celebrate my 12th anniversary of Priesthood Ordination. I have been blessed over these last 12 years to be able to celebrate the sacraments and serve the people of God in the Diocese of Brooklyn. In your kindness, I ask that you pray for me and my 2 classmates next Sunday. I will be leaving for some well needed rest this week as I travel with priest friends. I will return Sunday, July 3.
Wishing you a Blessed and Joyful week,
Father Alonzo Cox
