From the Pastor’s Desk

Dear Parishioners,

Today we celebrate the great solemnity of Pentecost. We hear in today’s gospel that the Lord bestows his peace upon his disciples. As he breathes on them, he sends forth the Holy Spirit. On this Pentecost Sunday, we gather as a community filled with the Holy Spirit to continue the mission of evangelization. St. Paul tells us in today’s second reading that those who are led by the spirit are sons of God. May the Holy Spirit continue to inspire, encourage and strengthen us each day as we follow the Lord closer to the eternal kingdom of heaven.

Sacrament of Confirmation

On this Pentecost Sunday, I have the great joy of celebrating the sacrament of Confirmation with 10 adults. They have been preparing for the sacrament with Deacon Rachid. In your kindness, I ask that you pray for these our brothers and sisters who will be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit in the sacrament of Confirmation which will take place at the 10:15AM Mass at Our Lady of Victory Church.

Pentecost Sunday Plant and Cake Sale

There will be a plant and cake sale after all the Masses this morning. Please be sure to stop by one of the tables at each of the three churches to purchase a plant or a delicious piece of cake. All proceeds will go to support the parish. Thank you for your generosity.

2022 Annual Catholic Appeal

Over these last few weeks, you have seen and heard me talk about this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal. As you know, the Annual Catholic Appeal assists financially for the ongoing pastoral work of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Each parish is assigned a financial goal to raise within a year for the Annual Catholic Appeal. Our goal here at St. Martin de Porres is $63,586. Of that goal, we have pledged to date, $29,097 from 79 families in our parish. I thank all of you who have made a pledge to this year’s Appeal. The key to reaching goal is full participation. If each family participates in this year’s appeal, we will be able to achieve our goal and maybe go over it! Anything that goes over goal comes directly back to the parish.

Congratulations Graduates

As we approach graduation season, I want to take this opportunity to congratulate all our graduates here at St. Martin de Porres Parish. If you are graduating this year, please send us your name, school, and level of school that you are graduating from. We will print this information in the bulletin.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, enkindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they will be created, and you will renew the face of the earth.

Wishing you a blessed and peaceful week,

Father Alonzo Q. Cox
