FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Dear Parishioners,
Today is the 13th Sunday of Ordinary Time. It is also the last Sunday of June! Where did the month go? As we begin these months of summer, we are constantly reminded to continue to keep Christ at the center of our lives. In whatever we plan to do this summer, let us not forget to pray and to attend Mass. All we do should be rooted in the great love God has for us and his holy people. We see in today’s gospel of how Jesus cures Jairus’ daughter. As Jairus is persistent in asking for Jesus to come and cure his daughter, the people at the royal official’s house has reported that his daughter has already died and there would be no need for Jesus to come. Our Lord disregards the message and tells Jairus, “do not be afraid, just have faith!” Immediately after saying that, Jesus goes to the house and brings the little girl to life. We must continue to be people of faith, never allowing anything or anyone to shake it. May the Lord bless our community of faith here at St. Martin de Porres Parish.
2021 Diocese of Brooklyn Annual Catholic Appeal
I wish to thank all of you who have already contributed to this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal. Our goal here at St. Martin de Porres is $63,586. We have pledged thus far $37,415. The key to having a successful ACA is participation. We are asking everyone to participate in this year’s ACA that we will be able to achieve our goal. Any monies collected beyond the goal comes directly back to the parish. I thank each of you for your financial support here at St. Martin de Porres.
Congratulations to our Graduates
This weekend we will bestow as special blessing upon all of our graduates. We congratulate them on all of the hard work they accomplished in coming to graduation. We also congratulate their parents and families who have supported them throughout their studies.
First Friday Devotions
This Friday, July 2 is the first Friday of the month. First Friday devotions will take place at Our Lady of Victory Church with Eucharistic Adoration and the recitation of the rosary following the 8:00AM Mass.
11:00 AM Tuesday Mass at Holy Rosary
As is the custom, the 11:00AM Tuesday Mass will be suspended for the months of July and August. The Mass will resume in September.
Priesthood Anniversary
This past Saturday, June 26, I celebrated my 11th anniversary of priesthood ordination. I cannot believe that 11 years passed by so quickly. I have spent almost 7 of those years here with all of you as Pastor. I thank the Lord each day for calling me to this great vocation that is the priesthood. In your kindness, I ask you to pray for me and my 2 classmates. I would also ask that we pray for an increase of vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
Wishing you a blessed and peaceful week,
Father Alonzo Q. Cox
